  • 17th Annual British Car Show - May 5, 2012

    The British will invade the City of Lewes again when the British Car Club of Delaware, the Lewes Chamber of Commerce, and The Lewes Historical Society host the 17th Annual British Car Show on Saturday, May 5.  The featured marque for the 2012 show will be the Triumph Spitfire.  Plan now to spend a fun Saturday in springtime Lewes on the pretty grounds of the Lewes Historical Society.

  • 22nd Annual Lewes Garden Tour - June 16, 2012

    The Annual Lewes Garden Tour, sponsored by the Lewes Chamber of Commerce will be here before you know it....June 16, 2012. The eight private gardens were selected based on the variety of garden styles comprising an amazing array of plants and arrangements. As you view these beautiful gardens, you will also be able to enjoy the craftsmanship of local artists and quilters who will be showing their creativity in the gardens.
     
    In Zwaanendael Park, the Garden Market will host more than 40 vendors and non-profit organizations selling garden related items between 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Three garden-related lectures will also be held in Zwaanendael Park beginning at 1:00 pm and the Food Tent will be offering lunch and beverages, with coffee service beginning at 8:00 a.m.

  • 44th Annual Great Delaware Kite Festival - April 6, 2012

    The 44th ANNUAL GREAT DELAWARE KITE FESTIVAL, co-sponsored by the Lewes Chamber of Commerce and the Delaware Division of Parks and Recreation, takes place at Cape Henlopen State Park on Good Friday, April 6, 2012. This popular annual event is free and open to all ages and all levels of kite-flying ability. It regionally attracts kite fliers and spectators who line up to see the Easter Bunny during the morning competitions. For those who have not made their own kites and want to participate, Kids’ Ketch and Rehoboth Toy & Kite Company will be on-site selling a wide variety of kites and there is space to practice before the competitions, which begin at 10 a.m. Additionally, there will also be food vendors, face painting and community organizations set up around the field.
     
    There is no advance registration: you can register on-site, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and throughout the morning on Friday, April 6. Children's and teens' competitions take place from 10:00 a.m. until noon, with an awards ceremony immediately following.  Next is the Highest Kite Competition and then Adult Competitions, Open Individual Ballet and Individual Precision Competitions in the afternoon.  The awards ceremony for the afternoon competitions concludes the day's activities.
     
    Note that times may vary according to weather conditions and the number of competitors.

  • 6th Annual Lewes Winter Fest Barkfest & Pet Pageant - February 10-11, 2012

    This fun 2-day event takes place in the Historic Commercial District surrounding Second Street and across the canal at Irish Eyes Pub & Restaurant.  It takes place the weekend prior to Valentine's Day, giving Valentine's Day shoppers and diners additional activities in which to participate and enjoy, as numerous businesses will be offering Valentine-themed specials and discounts.  The Barkfest has two special activities: "Yappy Hour" at Irish Eyes from 5-7 pm on Friday the 10th, featuring specialty beverages like the "Mutt-ini" and "Cat-atonic", for Pets and People who like to "Yap"; and the Pet Pageant, on Bank Street (re-named "Bark" Street during the event) on Saturday the 11th beginning at 2 pm.  The Pet Pageant is a competition with four categories: formal wear, leisure wear, companion look-alike, and kids freestyle (open to kids only)  Advance registration for the pageant will take place at P.U.P.S.(Pawsitively Unique Pet Shop) on Second Street and in front of the Citizen's Bank on Second Street on the day of the event.
     
    The Barkfest is co-sponsored by COMCAST SPOTLIGHT, Irish Eyes Pub & Restaurant, and P.U.P.S. and it's all to benefit the Georgetown S.P.C.A., which will also be collecting donations of blankets, sheets, pet food, kitty litter, pet toys, dog bones, and bleach for kennel cleaning to "Fill the Van" during both the Yappy Hour and Pet Pageant events.

  • 3rd ANNUAL LEWES TULIP FESTIVAL PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST ANNOUNCED

    The Lewes Tulip Festival, a celebration of Lewes’ Dutch heritage, will again include a photography contest.  (For contest rules and deadlines, click here.) The festival, sponsored by the Lewes Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Lewes Historical Society, Lewes in Bloom, City of Lewes Parks and Recreation Commission, the Zwaanendael Museum and the Historic Lewes Farmers Market, will be held April 12, 13 and 14, 2012 in various locations throughout Lewes with the photography exhibit taking place in Zwaanendael Park.  

    Entries will be judged by Lewes Chamber of Commerce members who are professional photographers. For the second year, A People’s Choice Award, selected by the majority of visitors’ ballots attending the three-day exhibit in Zwaanendael Park, will be given. Awards will be presented on April 14 at 2:00 pm in Zwanendael Park.

    Prizes of monetary awards will be made for first, second and third place in each of the six subject categories. The Grand Prize winner will be awarded a $100 cash award. Entries will be accepted March 1-March 26 at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center, 120 Kings Highway. The chamber is open 10 am-4pm, M-F.
