Lewes Historical Society Hosts Outdoor Summer Craft Fair July 11

July in Lewes means the Summer Craft Fair brought to you by The Lewes Historical Society, sponsored by Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Gallo Realty.  The Summer Craft Fair is on Saturday, July 11, from 9:00am until 4:00pm at the Historic Campus at Second & Shipcarpenter Streets in downtown Lewes.  Admission will be $5.00 per person, children under 12 are free. Proceeds from this event will benefit educational and preservation programs at The Lewes Historical Society.

With its wealth of historical sites, museums, unique shops, restaurants and pristine beaches, Lewes is an exciting destination for craft buyers and visitors alike. The Historic Complex consists of numerous historic buildings that will be open to the public. These houses and museums, surrounded by shade-trees and gardens, provide a beautiful backdrop for the Craft Fair. Listen to festive live music from 10:00am-2:00pm by New & Used Bluegrass Band.  Enjoy delicious food by Casa Amici, along with cold treats by Vitale's Italian Ice.  Over 4,000 visitors are expected to enjoy the Lewes Summer Craft Fair this year.

The Lewes Summer Craft Fair is well known for the exceptional quality of the craftspeople, including new and returning artists from across Delmarva and the Eastern Shore. This year, there will be over 70 talented artisans exhibiting a variety of media ranging from metalwork to woodworking, and this summer’s Featured Artist, paper artist Penny Long.

Penny Long specializes in paper note cards, suitable for framing, using the Iris Folding technique. “I learned how to do the technique of Iris Folding about 10 years ago.  It reminded me of paper piecing in quilting which I have done. Iris folding is a paper craft technique that involves folding strips of colored paper in such a way to form a design.  The center of the design forms an iris-a shape like the center of an eye or camera lens.  Iris folding originated in Holland where early crafters made their design using the patterned paper cut from the inside of envelopes.  Today I use any light weight paper,” Penny explains. “I love being part of The Lewes Historical Society Craft Fairs and I am honored to be the Featured Artist this summer.  It is such a beautiful place for all crafters to display their wares.”

The Lewes Historical Society invites the public to celebrate the work of Featured Artist, Penny Long, along with over 70 other talented artisans on Saturday, July 11, from 9:00am until 4:00pm at the Lewes Historic Campus at 110 Shipcarpenter Street.
