“Starry Nights” Presentation by Jim O'Leary

November 19th, 2021 - 7:00 pm

“Starry Nights” presentation sponsored by the Overfalls Foundation
7 p.m., Friday, November 19, 2021

Please join the Overfalls Foundation on Friday, November 19, 2020 at 7 p.m. for a no-cost presentation by Mr. Jim O’Leary as he helps us explore the Sun, Moon, stars and planets with the latest NASA imagery from the Hubble Space Telescope and other missions.  We will see the Sun and its violent surface in extreme detail, follow the exploits of Martian rovers and see the latest amazing close-up images of Jupiter.  Beyond the Solar System, new evidence of other planetary systems opens up possibilities of countless other worlds, some perhaps like Earth.  After being quarantined here on planet Earth for the last year, it will be good to get out and see what else is in the universe.

Jim O’Leary served as chief astronomy specialist for the Maryland Science Center, producing programs for the Davis Planetarium and films for the IMAX 3D Theater, many of which played in theaters worldwide.  He also oversaw renovation of the Science Center’s rooftop Observatory and its 1927-era telescope and has offered dozens of science workshops for educators across the mid-Atlantic region.

Jim has received education grants from NASA, NSF, NOAA and Johns Hopkins University, and as part of an NSF-funded program, traveled to Chile to visit astronomical observatories and meet with astronomers and educators.  He hosted the radio program “Skywatch” on Baltimore’s NPR station for 12 years and currently produces “Skywatch at the Beach” for Radio Rehoboth.  He is a recipient of the Excellence in Outreach Award from NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.

This event is open to the public and will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church located at 200 2nd St., Lewes, DE 19958.

We look forward to having you join us!
