DE CRAFT BREWERIES CREATE UNIQUE ‘OFF SEASON’ EXPERIENCES
Delaware Brewers Celebrate Craft Beer at 3rd Annual Beer Drinker’s Choice Awards
A beach town is one that typically “ghosts” in the more chilling months, but not at the Delaware Beaches. With more businesses staying open through the season, the more our town has created an off season uniqueness, something our craft breweries embrace wholeheartedly. With now over 20 craft breweries and 292,741 barrels of craft beer produced, Delaware ranks 20th as most breweries per capita according to the Brewer’s Association. In a growing industry craft breweries look for new, creative opportunities to showcase their talents, such as the Beer Drinker’s Choice Awards hosted by Crooked Hammock Brewery on February 24th.
In its third year, the DE Beer Drinker’s Choice Awards has teamed up with DE on Tap; together hoping to showcase the culture of craft breweries and the first state.
“Delaware on Tap is pleased to be a sponsor of the Delaware Beer Drinkers Choice Awards, which highlights the amazing array of quality beers available from brewers around the state,” said Liz Keller, Delaware Tourism Director. “The state’s craft beverage industry is growing. Delaware on Tap now includes more than 30 locations. These passionate and innovative businesses are a major part of Delaware’s more than $3 billion tourism industry and part of the endless discoveries that make the state such an attractive destination for visitors.”
An amazing array of quality beer is exactly what guests of this event should expect, along with some of Delaware’s best brewers embracing their unique characteristics in humorous costumes. Attendees of the awards are also encouraged to join in. The Beer Drinker’s Choice Awards will be nothing short of a day filled with debauchery and tomfoolery.
“We wanted to showcase Delaware breweries in a laid back, fun environment. It is all about taking a break from our busy brew schedules and coming together to celebrate the beer community,” says Rich Garrahan, owner of Crooked Hammock Brewery.
Delaware breweries competing in the event include Big Oyster Brewery of Lewes, Stitch House Brewing of Wilmington, Midnight Oil of Newark and many more hoping to win best overall, most unique, best costume and best facial hair. Brew teams will even get a chance to blow off some steam in a roast of their choosing. Last year, Eric Williams of Mispillion Brewery was the chosen one. This year it will be the inventor himself, Rich Garrahan, in the hot seat.
The Beer Drinker’s Choice Awards is on February 24th from 12-4 PM and is located in Lewes, Delaware at Crooked Hammock Brewery. 36707 Crooked Hammock Way. Tickets and more information can be found on the Crooked Hammock Brewery website.
