AMMONITE
Opening at the Cinema Art Theater

Starting on November 13, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “Ammonite,” an alluring romantic drama about a self-taught paleontologist whose life is altered by an unexpected friendship.
In 1840’s England, acclaimed but unrecognized fossil hunter Mary Anning (Kate Winslet) works alone on the rugged Southern coastline. With the days of her famed discoveries behind her, she now searches for common fossils to sell to tourists to support herself and her ailing mother. When a wealthy visitor entrusts Mary with the care of his wife Charlotte Murchison (Saoirse Ronan), she cannot afford to turn his offer down. Proud and relentlessly passionate about her work, Mary initially clashes with her unwelcome guest, but despite the distance between their social class and personalities, an intense bond begins to develop, compelling the two women to determine the true nature of their relationship. [2020, UK, 117 min, Rated: R].

Brian Tallerico of “RogerEbert.com” remarks, “There's so much grace and nuance in this performance that it truly could be studied to consider all of the smart decisions that Winslet makes in each scene.” Frank J. Avella of the “Edge Media Alliance” says, “Ammonite is a film where every touch, every glance, every movement, every gesture has great meaning...Kate Winslet is nothing short of astonishing in a restrained performance seething with pent-up desire and longing.”

Screening times are 12 pm and 6 pm on Fri (Nov 13), 12 pm and 6 pm on Sat (Nov 14), 2 pm on Sun (Nov 15), 1 pm on Wed (Nov 18), 5 pm on Thu (Nov 19). Admission is $8 for members and $11 for future members. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online at rehobothfilm.com. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
