Beebe Healthcare’s 100th Anniversary Short Film Premier

January 8th, 2017 - 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Beebe Healthcare’s 100th anniversary short film to be premiered at Milton Theatre on January 8, 2017

Nearly two years ago, plans were underway to publish a history book and a short documentary telling the story of Beebe Healthcare’s 100 years as a local institution bringing medical care and treatment to southern Delaware.

The book and film projects represented a monumental task of collecting decades of documents, recollections, old photographs, and historic details.  It required dozens of hours of interviewing people who have been part of Beebe’s history, or who have been active in the local communities and who remember what the hospital meant to them, to their families, and to the towns in which they have lived. The result of this two-year effort is a tabletop colorful book called Two Men with a Dream:  The Story of Beebe Healthcare, and a lively and heartwarming film called Voices Behind the Dream: The Story of Beebe Healthcare.

The film, which captures people talking about their memories of an early Beebe Hospital and how the organization has changed, of the hospital’s founders, and of Lewes when it was just a small place, will be premiered on Sunday, January 8, 2017, at the Milton Theatre.

Just 40 minutes long, the short film, available for purchase on DVD, tells stories most people have never heard about Lewes and about those involved in making Beebe what it is today.  The film even includes historic, black-and-white footage of a horse and carriage traveling along Savannah Road at the beginning of the century. Viewers will recognize the buildings that are still here today. The doors open at 2 p.m., with the screening to begin at 3 p.m. The premiere will include light refreshments and a cash bar. The event is free but since space is limited, reservations must be made by calling (302) 645-3468.
