BRITT-MARIE WAS HERE Opening at the Cinema Art Theater

Starting on October 4, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “Britt-Marie Was Here,” a warmhearted comedy that tells the story of a woman who leaves her husband after 40 years to find new meaning in life.

Based on the bestselling novel by Fredrik Backman, author of the much loved "A Man Called Ove," this story finds Britt-Marie, age 63, suddenly re-considering her purpose and habits after leaving her husband of 40 years. Accepting a supremely unglamorous job at a ramshackle rec center in the backwater town of Borg, she finds herself taking an interest in the daily routines of the town's oddball denizens-who all seem perfectly content to be stuck in their ways. Determined not to do the same, she takes on the impossible task of coaching the children's soccer team and draws the attention and possible affections of a handsome police officer. Perhaps there is an opportunity for a second chance after all. [US, 2019, 94 minutes, Rating: NR].

Diane Carson of “”KDHX” remarks, “A great deal of the credit for the film's success goes to the wonderful Pernilla August as Britt-Marie, as unusual a protagonist as she is welcome.” Steve Prokopy of “ThirdCoastReview.com” says, “This is a small, sweet work that finds notes of grace that elevate it into something bordering on inspirational.”

Screening times are 3 pm on Fri (Oct 4), 6 pm on Sat (Oct 5), 4 pm on Sun (Oct 6), 1 pm on Mon (Oct 7), 3 pm and 6 pm on Wed (Oct 9), 3 pm on Thu (Oct 10). Admission is $8 for members and $11 for future members. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
