THE CHILDREN ACT opening at the Cinema Art Theater

October 5th, 2018 - 4:00 pm
THE CHILDREN ACT OPENING AT THE CINEMA ART THEATER

Starting on October 5, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present THE CHILDREN ACT, a sophisticated and compelling drama about a judge’s struggle with the power of her duty.

Smart, elegant, and deeply moving, THE CHILDREN ACT stars two-time Academy Award®-winner Emma Thompson in a riveting performance as Fiona Maye, a British High Court judge who, in the midst of a marital crisis, must rule on a life-changing legal case concerning the survival of a teenage boy. At issue is whether to order a blood transfusion on the boy, a Jehovah's Witness who, just months short of his eighteenth birthday, is refusing on religious grounds the procedure that would save his life. Adapted by Ian McEwan from his own novel, and directed by Richard Eyre (NOTES ON A SCANDAL, IRIS), THE CHILDREN ACT is a deeply affecting portrait of strength, devotion, and love, with the incomparable Emma Thompson giving one of the very best performances of her career. [2018, UK, Runtime: 105 minutes, Rated: R].

“THE CHILDREN ACT is a welcome getaway from the now-fading summer’s loud fare, into something quiet and tasteful that aims for the aging soul,” writes Tomris Laffly of “RogerEbert.com”. Justin Chang of “The Los Angeles Times” writes that, “it’s always rewarding to watch Thompson bring her lucid wit and deep emotional reserves to bear on a meaty role.”

Screening times are 4:00 pm on Friday (Oct 5), 7:00 pm on Saturday (Oct 6), 4:00 pm on Sunday (Oct 7), 1:00 pm on Monday (Oct 8), 4:00 pm on Wednesday (Oct 10), 4:00 pm on Thursday (Oct 11). Admission for CAT: THIS WEEK films is $8 for members and $11 for future members. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater, starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
