CHURCHILL Opening at the Cineman Art Theater

July 7th, 2017 - 4:00 pm
CHURCHILL OPENING AT THE CINEMA ART THEATER

Starting on July 7th the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present CHURCHILL, a fictionalized account of Winston Churchill’s crisis of conscience in the lead up to the Allied invasion of France.

Based on a script by the historian Alex von Tunzelmann, the film focuses on the Prime Minister’s (Brian Cox) resistance to the landings in Normandy for fear of the loss of life that would occur. Opposing him are General Eisenhower (John Slattery) and Field Marshal Montgomery (Julian Wadham), who are adamant that such an operation is the only way to end the war in Europe. Embodying the spiritual and mental exhaustion of the British people after years of war, and haunted by the calamitous mistake of ordering the invasion of Gallipoli in World War I, Churchill must lean on his wife Clementine (Miranda Richardson) for support as he agonizes over the decisive action that will determine the fate of his countrymen, as well as his historical legacy. [2017, UK, Runtime: 1 hour, 50 minutes, Rated: PG]

Colin Covert of “The Minneapolis Star Tribune” praises the film for its honest attempt “to distinguish Prime Minister Winston Churchill, the man from the legend.” Gary Goldstein of “The Los Angeles Times” says CHURCHILL is “a superb look at an iconic statesman”, and calls Brian Cox’s performance “Oscar-caliber.” Come see how one of the most important decisions of the last century was made by men as flawed, as full of fear and self-doubt as any person would be when the lives of others are in their hands.

Screening times are 4:00 pm on Friday and Saturday (July 7 and July 8), 4:00 pm on Sunday (July 9), 7:00 pm on Monday (July 10) 4:00 pm on Tuesday (July 11) and 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm Wednesday (July 12) and on Thursday (July 13) at 7:00 pm.  Tickets can be purchased at the Cinema Art Theater, starting 30 minutes prior to each screening. Admission for a screening is $8 for RBFS members and $10 for future members. All screenings are held at the Cinema Art Theater located at 17701 Dartmouth Drive in Dartmouth Plaza, behind the Lewes Wawa.
