CLEAR SPACE HOSTS ANNUAL TONY PARTY JUNE 9
Will June 9 find us all on the outskirts of HADESTOWN, cheering as 14 Tony Awards descend into the depths? Will a certain cast and crew find they AIN’T TOO PROUD to carry off their own 12 statues? Maybe TOOTSIE will do Dustin Hoffman proud, picking up its 11? How about we head off to the heartland for THE PROM, to celebrate its seven nominations? While we’re there, we could stop by OKLAHOMA! - nominated for Best Revival of a Musical.
Better yet: How about joining fellow revelers at Clear Space Theatre’s third annual Tony Awards Party to celebrate as each winner is announced? Says Stephanie Hudson Whitcomb, Clear Space’s Director of Development, “I am really excited about what our team has come up with for this event. I love the mood evoked by the theme our Artistic Director, David Button, suggested – A Night at the Moulin Rouge. It pairs perfectly with a dinner catered by La Fable. And really – who wouldn’t love a night at the Moulin Rouge?!” She adds that the theme even has a great theatrical tie-in: “MOULIN ROUGE will open on Broadway in June!”
The Tony Awards Party will be hosted again this year by the Weilminster family, at their Rehoboth Beach home. Says Dawn Weilminster, “The Tony Party has become a very special tradition, and each year the event seems to get more exciting. For us, the best part of hosting is watching the community come together not only to celebrate a huge night for the theater and the arts, but to raise money to support youth scholarships for Clear Space Theatre’s educational programs.”
In addition to its splendid venue, overlooking Rehoboth Bay, the party features big screen viewing of the Tony Awards show, fabulous food and drinks catered by La Fable, wonderful guests and – making their debuts – summer stock cast members who will provide party-goers with their first glimpses of numbers from the upcoming summer season – MAMA MIA!, HELLO, DOLLY! and THE WEDDING SINGER. These performances are clearly a highlight; says Weilminster, “Our favorite part of the evening is watching the excitement in the room as the summer stock actors perform for our guests.”
She continues, “Each year we strive to make the party better than the year before, and to raise more money to support our local youth with scholarships for programs in the theatre. These are life-changing scholarships and we are honored to watch the success of the kids who thrive in the theater.”
Clear Space Theatre’s educational programs offering scholarships include one-week Summer Camp Intensives in musical theatre and drama for grades 1 through 12, a semester-based program for grades 1 through 8 (Broadway Bound), and a program for advanced young performers in grades 4 through 12 (Spotlight on Young Performers; by audition only).

Dress is “beach casual” – creative interpretations are encouraged! The party kicks off June 9 at 6:00 pm at 149 East Side Drive, Rehoboth Beach. How better to celebrate theatre – and the Tonys – short of taking home one of those awards yourself?!
