Coastal Concerts presents Trio Virado

March 18th, 2017 - 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

trio virado

International sensations Amy Porter (flute), João Luiz (guitar) and Juan-Miguel Hernandez (viola), known as Trio Virado, are taking instrumental chamber music to new heights. Formed in 2013, the Trio features repertoire that breaks boundaries between cultures and genres, stretching from 21st-century premieres to Latin tangos to arrangements of works from the classical canon.

The ensemble’s guitarist, João Luiz, is no stranger to Coastal Concerts, having appeared in 2013 as one-half of the Brasil Guitar Duo. He currently heads the guitar department at the State University of New York-Purchase and is an adjunct faculty member at New Jersey City University. Originally from São Paulo, Luiz and his duo partner, Douglas Lora, recently performed in Cuba with cellists Yo-Yo Ma and Carlos Prieto.

Canadian-born violist Juan-Miguel Hernandez has also performed at Coastal Concerts, as an original member of the Harlem String Quartet, which came to Lewes in 2011. Hernandez, a grand-prize winner in 2009 of the Brahms International Viola Competition, is now a member of the legendary Fine Arts Quartet.

Renowned American flutist Amy Porter will be making her Coastal Concerts’ debut. A graduate of The Juilliard School, she was a member of the Atlanta Symphony before becoming a sought-after soloist and a professor of flute at the University of Michigan.

Trio Virado offers a chance to experience an unusual blend of instruments played by distinguished musicians in culturally diverse repertoire. Circle the date of this concert as one not to be missed.
