THE COTTON CLUB ENCORE Opening at the Cinema Art Theater

THE COTTON CLUB ENCORE Opening at the Cinema Art Theater

Starting on October 18, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “The Cotton Club Encore,” a captivating musical drama that is a new version of the 1984 film that was centered on a 1930’s Harlem jazz club.

In this lavish drama, Harlem’s legendary Cotton Club becomes a hotbed of passion and violence as the lives and loves of entertainers and gangsters collide. Now, Francis Ford Coppola’s extraordinary film is brought to vivid new life. Featuring never-before-seen scenes and musical sequences that deepen and enrich the storylines, this remastered and beautifully restored version represents Coppola’s fully realized vision of “The Cotton Club.” Additional scenes include an extended Gregory Hines and Maurice Hines tap performance, Lonette McKee’s brilliant rendition of Ethel Waters’ “Stormy Weather,” Coppola’s originally envisioned ending, and more. [US, 2019, 139 minutes, Rating: NR].

Dwight Brown of “National Newspaper Publishers Association” says, “Gorgeously shot, art directed and costumed, the visuals were strong. Filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola has released a 139-minute director's cut, and his revisions finally do justice to the script.” Jordan Hoffman of “Guardian” praises, “This is a gift to cinephiles everywhere from deep in the cellar and we're all lucky to get a sip.”

Screening times are 4 pm and 7 pm on Fri (Oct 18), 7 pm on Sat (Oct 19), 3 pm on Sun (Oct 20), 4 pm and 7 pm on Wed (Oct 23), 7 pm on Thu (Oct 24). Admission is $8 for members and $11 for future members. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
