DAMSEL opening at the Cinema Art Theater

July 20th, 2018 - 4:00 pm

DAMSEL OPENING AT THE CINEMA ART THEATER

Starting on July 20th, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present DAMSEL, a deadpan update of the Western genre, with Robert Pattison starring as a man on an oddball adventure to find the woman he intends to marry.

Samuel Alabaster (Robert Pattinson), an affluent pioneer, ventures across the American Frontier to marry the love of his life, Penelope (Mia Wasikowska). As Samuel traverses the Wild West with a drunkard named Parson Henry (David Zellner) and a miniature horse called Butterscotch, their once-simple journey grows treacherous, blurring the lines between hero, villain and damsel. A loving reinvention of the western genre from the Zellner brothers (KUMIKO, THE TREASURE HUNTER), DAMSEL showcases their trademark unpredictability, off-kilter sense of humor, and unique brand of humanism. [2018, US, Runtime: 113 minutes, Rated: R].

Ann Hornaday of “The Washington Post” praises the film for, “delightfully twisting and torqueing the traditional woman-in-jeopardy narrative to create a clever, comical and uncannily relevant allegory.” Jeannette Catsoulis of “The New York Times” calls it, “a movie that turns the classic western into something wackily eccentric and entertainingly original.”

Screening times are 4:00 pm on Friday (July 20), 7:00 pm on Saturday (July 21), 4:00 pm on Sunday (July 22), 4:00 pm on Tuesday (July 24) and 4:00 pm on Wednesday (July 25) and 7:00 pm on Thursday (July 26). Admission for CAT: THIS WEEK films is $8 for members and $11 for future members. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater, starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
