EXHIBITION ON SCREEN - HOPPER:  AN AMERICAN LOVE STORY Opening at the Cinema Art Theater in Lewes

Monday, January 16 at 2 pm and Tuesday, January 31 at 6 pm

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society is pleased to present the 2023 Journeys in Art History - Exhibition on Screen™ (EOS) film series. EOS is the originator and pioneer of bringing exhibition-based art films to the cinema. Working with top international museums and galleries, EOS creates films that offer a cinematic immersion into the worlds best-loved or under rated artists, accompanied by insights from the world’s leading historians and arts critics. The three-part series will begin in January with brand new films each month through March. The focus of the Journey in Art series is to introduce the works of history’s greatest painters and to provide opportunities to view blockbuster art exhibitions from galleries worldwide.

Jamie Moore of the Rehoboth Art League will lead a post film discussion.

Artist Edward Hopper’s work is the most recognizable art in America – popular, praised, and mysterious. Countless painters, photographers, filmmaker and musicians have been influenced by his art– but who was he, and how did a struggling illustrator create such a bounty of notable work? This new film takes a deep dive into Hopper’s art, his life, and his relationships. From his early career as an illustrator; his wife giving up her own promising art career to be his manager; and navigating his critical and commercial acclaim. In his own words he explains – “this film explores the enigmatic personality behind the brush.” Combined with expert interviews, diaries, and a startling visual reflection of life in American, Hopper is arguably the most influential artist. Rothko, Banksy, Alfred Hitchcock, David Lynch, and even The Simpsons have all been inspired by Hopper. The film was released to coincide with the major Hopper exhibition (Edward Hopper’s New York) at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (Oct 22, 2021 – Mar 23, 2022). [2022, US, Runtime: 90 min, Not Rated]

Admission is $9 for RBFS members, $11.50 for general audience and $10 for seniors (65+) and students. Patrons are encouraged to purchase admission online at RehobothFilm.com. If seats are available, admission can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
