THE FALL OF THE AMERICAN EMPIRE Opening at the Cinema Art Theater

Starting on June 28, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “The Fall of the American Empire,” a comedy, crime thriller that explores the predominance of capitalism in a society where all other values seem to have crumbled – an ambitious blend of humor, suspense, and social commentary.

Pierre-Paul Daoust, 36, an intellectual with a PhD in philosophy is forced to work as a deliveryman to afford a decent living. One day, while delivering a parcel in Montreal, he gets caught in an armed robbery gone terribly wrong: two dead and millions in money bags laying on the ground. Pierre-Paul is confronted with a dilemma: leave empty handed, or take the money and run? [Canada, 2018, 128 minutes, Rating: R].

Frank Swietek of “One Guy’s Opinion” comments, “The key to the movie's success is the dexterity with which the film’s director and writer, Denys Arcand, has folded his socially conscious message with witty caper comedy.” Leonard Maltin of “leonardmaltin.com” claims “This film is enjoyable and manages to take potshots at the dumbing-down of our society while spinning its fanciful tale.”

Screening times are 4 pm on Friday (June 28), 7 pm on Saturday (June 29), 3 pm on Sunday (June 30), 2 pm on Monday (July 1), 4 pm on Wednesday (July 3), 4 pm and 7 pm on Thursday (July 4). Admission is $8 for members and $11 for future members. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
