Opening August 27, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater continues its  summer film celebration in recognition of the environmental contributions of the Surfrider Foundation’s Delaware Chapter along with honoring the 100th Anniversary of Rehoboth Beach Patrol, with the release of Five Summer Stories – 50th Anniversary. This exhilarating and playful surfing documentary recaptures the state of surfing on the verge of a creative transition.

An exhilarating remix of the first of its kind surfing documentary the film celebrates Five Summer Stories’ 50th Anniversary rerelease. In 1972, the film premiered at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. At the time, it was deemed “the greatest surf film ever made”. The film was said to perfectly capture a fractured era, in which an explosion of creativity and revolutionary change was shaking down the old order.The film thrusted the sport of surfing into a new and unknown territory. With narration written by Drew Kampion and music composed by the 1970s rock/surf band Honk with songs from southern California’s Beach Boys all digitally remastered. [2021, USA, 81 min, R: PG]

Screening times are 3 pm on Sat (Aug 27) and 3 pm on Sun (Aug 28). Admission is $9 for members and $11.50 for general. Special admission pricing is $8.00 for Surfrider Foundation members and Lifeguards (with ID).
