Follow in the Footsteps of an American Legend with The Lewes Historical Society

Join The Lewes Historical Society for a bus trip to Cambridge, Maryland on Friday, March 16, 2018.  Traveling via charter bus, the group will depart Lewes at 8:30am from the Lowe’s Home Improvement Parking Lot alongside Route 1 at 20364 Plantation Road, Lewes, DE 19958.  Tickets are $50.00 per person for members and $65.00 per person for non-members (a new Individual membership is included in your purchase). Buy a ticket for yourself at the non-member price and get a member’s price ticket for your spouse or significant other! Tickets can be purchased by calling The Lewes Historical Society at 302-645-7670.  Day Trip ticket includes; transportation and lunch. Seating is limited to 55 persons and early reservations are encouraged.

The day will begin at Linchester Mill, one of the last operating water powered mills on the Eastern Shore where the lost development of American millinery works still echo. Continue towards the Chesapeake Bay with a stopover at Buckstown Village Country Store. A 19th century site where Harriet Tubman was nearly killed trying to protect a young slave boy who was fleeing an angry overseer.

Arrive by lunch time at the recently opened Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park and Visitors Center where participants will have their choice of a boxed lunch option to enjoy while exploring the legacy of this rich site.

Participants are free to explore historic Cambridge on their own but must return to the agreed upon departure area by 3:30pm. End the day by the river in Cambridge, with enough free time for snacking, shopping, or a visit to the Ruark Boat Works and Richardson Maritime Museum (only a additional $5 self-pay entrance fee). Only a short day trip away from Lewes, we hope the allure of the shore will allow you to be swept away by its significant history.
