On Saturday, August 15 at 8 am, the Historic Lewes Farmers Market rings the bell to open at George H. P. Smith Park at Dupont and Johnson Avenues. 35 vendors are at market selling eggplants, tomatoes, pears, apples, plums, sweet corn, peaches, cucumbers, beets, radishes, potatoes, kale, carrots, squash, beef-pork-lamb, artisanal cheeses, baked goods, local honey, freshly-cut flowers, and chicken and duck eggs.

The Market again features a double header demonstration.

At 9 am, Nancy Staisey, Market Board Member and foodie, will share her passion for preserving local seasonal produce.  She  will demonstrate how to make easy dill pickles among other tips and on preserving the best local produce now ripe and ready to purchase at the Market.

At 10 am, the featured chef is Ted Deptula, Executive Chef at the Lewes Yacht Club and a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. Ted will prepare a seasonal menu using produce and other fresh products from the Market.

Children’s Story Time at the Market begins at 9 am. Jennifer Noonan, the new Children’s Librarian from the Lewes Public Library, will read Rah, Rah Radishes by April Pulley Sayre. All children and their adults are welcome to come to Children’s Story Time, a partnership program between the HLFM and the Lewes Public Library. The Story Time Tent is located near the children’s playground at the park.

The Market continues its SNAP (EBT Food Stamps) program. To help lower economic barriers to local, healthy food, the HLFM matches up to $20 to each participant each week with HLFM Bonus Bucks. SNAP participants are encouraged to come to the SNAP tent at the Market to pick up the bonus $20 in tokens to use at the Market. In addition to SNAP, the Historic Lewes Farmers Market welcomes participants in Delaware's Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. WIC coupons can be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at the Market.

The Market is open every Saturday from 8 am to noon. Ample parking can be found at the Shields Elementary School and Lewes School Parking lots (intersection of Savannah Road and Sussex Drive), a short walk to the Market.

The HLFM’s Wednesday Outdoor Market at Crooked Hammock Brewery is now open from 8 am to 11 am with an expanded number of vendors. The Market is located at Crooked Hammock Way and Kings Highway in Lewes. Wednesday, August 30 is the last day this season for this market.

The Market provides a Veggie Valet service to help customers carry bags and melons (when they are in season) back to their cars. This service is located right outside the HLFM Information Tent.

In case of inclement weather, the Market moves to Shields Elementary School Parking lot.
