Historic Lewes Farmers Market

July 21st, 2018 - 8:00 am to 12:00 pm
Kid’s Day at the Market and Meet the Farmer Demo
Historic Lewes Farmers Market
Saturday, July 21, 2018, 8 am - noon
George H. P. Smith Park, Johnson and Dupont Avenues

The Market celebrates Kid’s Day this Saturday, July 21. It all starts with a tree planting (tree donated by the HLFM). More fun follows with Story Time, bocce instruction, a scavenger hunt with prizes, and healthy snacks for kids. (Rain Date for Kid’s Day activities is July 28.)

At 9 am, Jennifer Noonan, the Children’s Librarian at the Lewes Public Library, will read A Seed is Sleepy by Dianna Aston, beautifully illustrated by Sylvia Long. Just under 8,900 children and their adults have come to Children’s Story Time at the Market since this partnership program between the HLFM and the Lewes Public Library began in 2008.

Then, at 10:00 am, in our special Meet the Farmer demo, Eileen Dykes from Twin Post Farm and Bob Mattie from Elysium Farm will talk about their farms and the ethical treatment of farm animals. This Bacon and Eggs demonstration will conclude with quiche bites made with eggs from Twin Post and bacon from Elysium Farm prepared by Old World Breads.

The HLFM Wednesday Outdoor Market at Crooked Hammock Brewery is also open every Wednesday from 8 to 11 am with an expanded number of vendors. The Market is located at Crooked Hammock Way and Kings Highway in Lewes.

The Market continues its SNAP (EBT Food Stamps) program. To help lower economic barriers to local, healthy food, the HLFM matches up to $20 each participant each week with HLFM Bonus Bucks. SNAP participants are encouraged to come to the SNAP tent at the Market to pick up the bonus $20 in tokens to use at the Market. For Kid’s Day, the Market will give each child with a parent showing an EBT card, $5 in Bonus Bucks to spend at the Market to purchase fruits and vegetables of their choice.

WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) coupons are also accepted at both the Saturday and Wednesday markets.

The Market is open every Saturday from 8 am to noon. Ample parking can be found at the Shields Elementary School and Lewes School Parking lots (intersection of Savannah Road and Sussex Drive), a short walk to the Market. The Market provides a Veggie Valet service to help customers carry bags and melons (when they are in season) back to their cars. This service is located right outside the HLFM Information Tent.

The Market is open rain or shine, but, if it is raining, the Market moves to Shields Elementary School Parking Lot (Savannah Road and Sussex Drive).
