Historic Lewes Farmers Market

August 18th, 2018 - 8:00 am to 12:00 pm
JOIN THE HISTORIC LEWES FARMERS MARKET

SATURDAY, AUGUST 18, 8 am—12 pm

Executive Chef Ted Deptula from the Lewes Yacht Club Demos at 10 am

It’s the height of the summer harvest before we move into the fall, and there’s so much at the Market this Saturday. Look for okra, Shishito peppers, Messina yellow freestone peaches, Fantasia yellow freestone nectarines, heirloom tomatoes, arugula, Italian eggplant, basil—fresh cut and made into pesto, potatoes, green beans, lima beans, garlic, zinnia and gladiola bouquets. Also find fresh hamburger, lamb and pork sausages, yogurt, milk, ice cream, butter, eggs, cheese, jams and jellies, and much more!

At 9 am, Jennifer Noonan, the Children’s Librarian at the Lewes Public Library, will read June 29, 1999 by David Weisner. Over 9,000 children and their adults have come to Children’s Story Time at the Market since this partnership program between the HLFM and the Lewes Public Library began in 2008.

At 10 am, Executive Chef Ted Deptula from the Lewes Yacht Club will demo a meal to fit the season made with produce from the Market.

Patrons may also enter the raffle for the free bicycle that the HLFM gives away every year to encourage all to bike or walk (if able) to the Market.

The Market continues its SNAP (EBT Food Stamps) program. To help lower economic barriers to local, healthy food, the HLFM matches up to $20 each participant each week with HLFM Bonus Bucks. SNAP participants are encouraged to come to the SNAP tent at the Market to pick up the bonus $20 in tokens to use at the Market.  In addition to SNAP, the Historic Lewes Farmers Market welcomes participants in Delaware's Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program. WIC coupons can be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at the Market. Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) coupons are also welcome.

The Market is open every Saturday from 8 am to noon. There’s lots of parking at the Shields Elementary School and Lewes School Parking lots, just off the corner of Savannah Road and Sussex Drive and a short walk to the Market. At the Saturday market, a Veggie Valet service is provided to help customers carry bags back to their cars. This service is located right outside the HLFM Information Tent.

Customers who want to know what is happening at the Market each Saturday should subscribe to the HLFM newsletter sent to customers on Thursdays. Newsletter is free. To be included, customers may send their email address to [email protected].

And don't forget about the Wednesday market at Crooked Hammock Brewery (Crooked Hammock Way and Kings Highway) from 8 to 11 am.

Consistent with its mission, the HLFM is committed to supporting farmers who grow local fruits and vegetables -- a “real” farmers market that is producer-only.
