Lewes Public Library Children’s Story Time Starts at 9am at Market
On Saturday, June 1, at 9 am, the Lewes Public Library begins its Children’s Story Time at the Market. Since this partnership began in 2008, just under 9,200 children and their adults have met under the yellow tent to listen to stories that inspire kids to eat better and respect all of nature. The Historic Lewes Farmers Market thanks Jennifer Noonan and Hope Ellsworth for donating their Saturday mornings to come and share the best stories at the Market. This Saturday, they will read Anne Miranda’s classic To Market, To Market that has a very funny twist on the children’s rhyme. Children and their parents are invited to come and listen at 9am, and then shop for the freshest local produce available on the Delmarva.
At 10 am at the demo tent, former Bad Company bassist-turned caterer, Paul Cullen, will demonstrate how to create fine, traditional Italian cuisine with local produce and meats from the Market.
The Market continues its SNAP (EBT Food Stamps) program. To help lower economic barriers to local, healthy food, the HLFM matches up to $20 each participant each week with HLFM Bonus Bucks. SNAP participants are encouraged to come to the SNAP tent at the Market to pick up the bonus $20 in tokens to use at the Market. WIC and SFMNP will also be accepted at the market beginning June 8.
The Market is open every Saturday from 8 am to noon. Ample parking can be found at the Shields Elementary School and Lewes School Parking lots (intersection of Savannah Road and Sussex Drive), a short walk to the Market. The Market provides a Veggie Valet service to help customers carry bags and melons (when they are in season) back to their cars. This service is located right outside the HLFM Information Tent.
In case of inclement weather the Market moves to Shields Elementary School Parking lot.
