Historic Lewes Farmers Market at George H.P. Smith Park
(corner of Johnson & Dupont Aves.)

June 8, 2019, 8 am - noon

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market opens at 8 am at George H.P. Smith Park (Johnson and DuPont Avenues) with 35 vendors bringing juicy strawberries, asparagus, lettuces and greens including mini-romaines, baby kale, Bok Choi, arugula, Swiss chard, spinach, salad and stir fry mixes. Look out for the first tomatoes to come to market!  Customers will also find a great selection of jams & jellies, eggs, milk, butter, grass-fed lamb, pork, beef, chicken, mushrooms, honey, herbs, and more.

At 9 am, the Lewes Public Library continue its Children’s Story Time at the Market. Since this partnership began in 2008, just under 9,200 children and their adults have met under the yellow tent to listen to stories that inspire kids to eat better and respect all of nature. The Historic Lewes Farmers Market thanks Jennifer Noonan and Hope Ellsworth for donating their Saturday mornings to come and share the best stories at the Market. This Saturday, they will read Katherine Ayres’ Up, Down, and Around, a great introduction to plants, foods, and gardens.

At 10 am at the demo tent, Ted Deptula, Executive Chef of the Lewes Yacht Club presents a great summer recipe made with ingredients from the Market. Joining him for the demo will be Mike Love who will be chef at Lewes Yacht Club after Father's Day. They will be demonstrating Fried Green Tomato BLTs and Rainbow Carrot Cupcakes made with produce from the Market.

The Market continues its SNAP (EBT Food Stamps) program. To help lower economic barriers to local, healthy food, the HLFM matches up to $20 each participant each week with HLFM Bonus Bucks. SNAP participants are encouraged to come to the SNAP tent at the Market to pick up the bonus $20 in tokens to use at the Market. WIC and SFMNP will also be accepted at the market beginning this Saturday..

The Market is open every Saturday from 8 am to noon. Ample parking can be found at the Shields Elementary School and Lewes School Parking lots (intersection of Savannah Road and Sussex Drive), a short walk to the Market. The Market provides a Veggie Valet service to help customers carry bags and melons (when they are in season) back to their cars. This service is located right outside the HLFM Information Tent.

In case of inclement weather, the Market moves to Shields Elementary School Parking lot.

Customers should not forget the HLFM Wednesday Market at Crooked Hammock Brewery, Kings Highway and Crooked Hammock Way, Lewes, DE, from 8 am to 11 am.
