Historic Lewes Farmers Market at George H.P. Smith Park
(corner of Johnson & Dupont Aves.)
June 29, 2019, 8 am – noon

This Saturday, June 29, the market opens with 35 vendors bringing the first sweet corn and peaches of the season, tomatoes, juicy blueberries, blackberries, carrots, summer squash, cabbage, beets, lettuces and greens, microgreens, kale, Bok Choi, arugula, Swiss chard, salad and stir fry mixes. Customers will also find a great selection of picnic salads, jams & jellies, eggs, milk, butter, grass-fed lamb, pork, beef, chicken, mushrooms, honey, herbs, lavender, soaps, and more.

At 9 am, the Lewes Public Library continues its Children’s Story Time at the Market. Since this partnership began in 2008, just under 9,200 children and their adults have met under the yellow tent to listen to stories that inspire kids to eat better and respect all of nature. The Historic Lewes Farmers Market thanks Jennifer Noonan and Hope Ellsworth for donating their Saturday mornings to come and share the best stories at the Market. This Saturday, they will read Kevin Henkes’s My Garden, featuring a girl who grows chocolate rabbits, tomatoes the size of beach balls, and seashells in her garden.

At 10 am, in the demo tent, Chef Drew Lopuski from Lewes’s Striper Bites, an award winning "nautical bistro", demos a flavorful summer meal made with fresh, local produce from the Market.

The Market continues its SNAP (EBT Food Stamps) program. To help lower economic barriers to local, healthy food, the HLFM matches up to $20 each participant each week with HLFM Bonus Bucks. SNAP participants are encouraged to come to the SNAP tent at the Market to pick up the bonus $20 in tokens to use at the Market. WIC and SFMNP coupons are also accepted at the Market.

The Market is open every Saturday from 8 am to noon. Ample parking can be found at the Shields Elementary School and Lewes School Parking lots (intersection of Savannah Road and Sussex Drive), a short walk to the Market. The Market provides a Veggie Valet service to help customers carry bags and melons (when they are in season) back to their cars. This service is located right outside the HLFM Information Tent.

In case of inclement weather, the Market moves to Shields Elementary School Parking lot.

Customers should not forget the HLFM Wednesday Market at Crooked Hammock Brewery, Kings Highway and Crooked Hammock Way, Lewes, DE, from 8 am to 11 am.
