Fall Flavors at the Historic Lewes Farmers Market
Saturday, November 16, 9 am – noon

Farmers/producers have quite a lot to offer at Market this fall: Hubbard squash, sweet carrots, Brussel sprouts, persimmons, cauliflower, collard greens, sweet potatoes, broccoli, cabbage, beets, radishes, arugula, spinach, apples, mushrooms, peppers, onions, fennel, oysters, cider, chicken, pork, eggs,  jams and jellies, milk, yogurt, baked goods, fresh cut flowers for the table and fall-flavored wreaths for the door.

This Saturday, November 16, and next Saturday, November 23, the Historic Lewes Farmers Market will conduct a food drive for the benefit of Casa San Francisco located in Milton, DE.

Casa San Francisco offers an emergency shelter providing housing and three daily meals for up to 12 adults for a maximum of 30 days, a food cooperative helping families and individuals stretch their limited incomes by providing a supplemental bag of groceries once every month, and an Emergency Food Pantry stocked with donated food for persons who are in crisis and cannot buy food.

The Market continues to "glean" (gather together donated food from our vendors) to give to Casa San Francisco and customers can help with this. At these last two markets, customers can purchase something fresh from a vendor and bring it to the HLFM table at the market to donate to the food bank. And these are the specific non-perishable items that folks can bring to the market. The food bank has requested: fresh produce, eggs, baked goods, and meat from the Market. They also ask for spaghetti sauce, pasta, peanut butter, jams and jellies, canned fruits/vegetables/soups, boxed cereal, powdered or shelf stable milk, rice, and beans. Please honor the HLFM’s mission and the health needs of folk who use the food bank by providing healthy foods. These items may also be brought to the HLFM Table at the Market.

The Fall Market is located at the Richard Shields Elementary School parking lot at the corner of Savannah Road and Sussex Drive in Lewes, Delaware, and is open Saturdays from 9 am til noon through November 23 (Saturday before Thanksgiving).  Convenient parking can be found at the adjacent Lewes School parking lot.

The Market continues its SNAP (EBT Food Stamps) program. To help lower economic barriers to local, healthy food, the HLFM matches up to $20 each participant each week with HLFM Bonus Bucks. SNAP participants are encouraged to come to the SNAP tent at the Market to pick up the bonus $20 in tokens to use at the Market.

Customers who want to know what is happening at the Market each Saturday should subscribe to the HLFM newsletter sent to customers on Thursdays. Newsletter is free. To be included, customers may send their email address to [email protected].

Consistent with its mission, the HLFM is committed to supporting farmers who grow local fruits and vegetables -- a “real” farmers market that is producer-only.
