Halloween at the Historic Lewes Farmers Market

It’s Halloween at the Historic Lewes Farmers Market this Saturday, October 29. Farmers and volunteers will be decked out in ghoulish attire and customers are welcome to also come in costume for a fun Fall Market! Prizes will be given to vendors for best costumes and best decorated tent, and to customers for best costume. There are Halloween stickers for kids, and much more.

Customers looking for fresh local broccoli, spinach, baby kale, cauliflower, butternut squash, ghosts, goblins, and scarecrows will find them all at this Saturday’s Fall Market. The harvest is in, and Market farmers are bringing potatoes, Brussel sprouts, winter squashes, sweet potatoes, lettuces, pears, apples, cider, mushrooms, pork, chicken, beef, crabs, freshly laid eggs, fall soups, breads, jams and jellies, pastries, milk, yogurt, kombucha, honey, hot coffee drinks, fresh beauty products, and beautiful flower bouquets and wreaths.

Customers are reminded the Market is now located at the Lewes Elementary School (LES) parking lot every Saturday from 9 am to 12 pm. The market will be at LES through November 19. The Historic Lewes Farmers Market is a producer-only, “where the farmers are” market, and we are open rain or shine.

Entrance for walkers and bikers is the driveway into the school off Savannah Road. Limited parking is available in the school’s bus parking lot off of Sussex Drive–with priority given to handicapped customers–and street parking is available.

This is the last Market that customers can use their WIC and Senior coupons – these expire October 31. The Market continues its SNAP (EBT Food Stamps) program. To help lower economic barriers to local, healthy food, the HLFM matches up to $20 each participant each week with HLFM Bonus Bucks. SNAP participants are encouraged to come to the SNAP tent at the Market to pick up the bonus $20 in tokens to use at the Market.

Customers who want to help feed the local community may purchase local produce, meats, milk, and other food from growers at the Market to donate to the HLFM Food Pantry Purchase Program every Saturday. At the end of the Market, the produce and other foods are gathered and given to various food pantries including both Epworth and Casa San Francisco. The HLFM thanks its customers for their generosity.

Dogs at the Market must be under control on a tightly held non-retractable leash or their owners will be fed to the biggest goblin.

The Market thanks The Lee Ann Wilkinson Group, 2022 HLFM Market Champion, and all other sponsors for their continued support of the Market.
