Last Historic Lewes Farmers Market of the Year

This Saturday, November 19, is the last day of the Historic Lewes Farmers Market for the 2022 season. It is also the last Saturday to purchase yams, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, mushrooms, pies, and all the fixins’ for Thanksgiving. The Market thanks all of its customers, farmers/producers, volunteers, and supporters for their support this year. The Market plans to open the 2023 Market on Saturday, May 6 at George H.P. Smith Park.

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market is a producer-only market “where the farmers are.” This Saturday’s Thanksgiving Market will feature broccoli, sweet potatoes, cauliflower, cabbage, beets, radishes, multi-colored sweet peppers, carrots, onions, garlic, leeks, apples, pears, persimmons, cider, apple cider donuts, and more. Greens include Lacinato and Tuscan kale, spinach, collard greens, Mustard greens, and Swiss chard. Customers will also find beef, pork, lamb, chicken, fresh-picked crab, oysters, eggs, yogurt, butter, milk, mushrooms, herbs including freshly harvested Turmeric root, parsley, rosemary, sage, and more. There will be a great selection of pastries, pies, cookies, and breads—including gluten-free deserts. There’s also kombucha, jams, honey, crab and other soups, locally roasted coffee, pumpkin centerpieces, wreaths, and more.

The Market continues its Special Food Drive on November 19.  Customers are asked to bring non-perishable items to the Market and to also consider purchasing fresh food at the Market to donate to local food pantries. Customers can purchase the items directly from the farmers and bring to the HLFM Food Drive table or request that the farmer put the items aside for the food pantries to pick up at the Market.

The food pantries request certain non-perishables including spaghetti sauce, pasta, peanut butter, jams and jellies, canned fruits/vegetables/soups, boxed cereal, powdered or shelf stable milk, rice, and beans. Please honor the HLFM's mission and the health needs of folk who use the food bank by providing healthy foods. Diapers, menstrual hygiene products, and laundry detergent are also needed, and can be dropped off at the HLFM Food Drive table next to the HLFM Info tent, and at other entrances to the Market.

Entrance for walkers and bikers is the driveway into the school off Savannah Rd. Limited parking is available in the school's bus parking lot off of Sussex Drive–with priority given to handicapped customers–and street parking is available.

The Market continues its SNAP (EBT Food Stamps) program. To help lower economic barriers to local, healthy food, the HLFM matches up to $20 each participant each week with HLFM Bonus Bucks. SNAP participants are encouraged to come to the SNAP tent at the Market to pick up the bonus $20 in tokens to use at the Market.

Dogs at the Market must be under control on a tightly held non-retractable leash.

The Market thanks The Lee Ann Wilkinson Group, 2022 HLFM Market Champion, and all other sponsors for their continued support of the Market.
