Historic Lewes Farmers Market Opening Day

Due to impending inclement weather, the May 7 market will open at the Lewes Elementary School parking lot at 820 Savannah Road, Lewes

.The Historic Lewes Farmers Market (HLFM) celebrates the opening of its 17th season on Saturday, May 7, at the Lewes Elementary School Parking lot at 820 Savannah Road, Lewes. At the market, 31 local farmers/producers bring the best local fresh veggies, fruit, eggs, milk, yogurt, beef, pork, chicken, lamb, seafood, mushrooms, cut-flowers, plants, coffee, fresh breads and pastries, jams, and much more.

Because of weather conditions, the Heirloom Restaurant demo will be rescheduled.

There are a number of new vendors at the market this year, including Nash Veggies, a small acreage farm using no-spray regenerative growing techniques incorporating elements of permaculture to the field layout in an effort to work with nature by producing both food, and habitat for native species. Looking for a beautiful bouquet for Mother’s Day? Winters Farm Florals uses regenerative no-till practices to grow beautiful cut-flowers. They focus on growing high-quality flowers in hoop houses and in the field and grow over 50 carefully selected varieties and cultivars that have been bred for cut-flower production and select florist-quality blooms to bring to market. In addition to the freshest blue crabs in the Delmarva, Jackie Blues now has fresh hand-picked lump and claw crabmeat (no preservatives). Hattie’s Garden returns to the Saturday market after a two-year hiatus. It’s time to plant the garden, and this Saturday Hattie will have all types of plants including heirloom and hybrid tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, Swiss chard, lettuce, dill, cilantro, parsley, various basils, and other herbs. She’ll also have flower plants including zinnias, marigolds and cosmos.

A number of the market vendors take pre-orders. The HLFM website www.historiclewesfarmersmarket.org lists all vendors, their contact information, and whether or not they take pre-orders. For pre-orders, the customer may pick up at the vendor tent in the market.

The market’s weekly newsletter lists demos and more. To receive the newsletter customers should go to [email protected] and ask to be added to the list.

The market processes SNAP, WIC, and SFMNP, and continues to match SNAP up to $20 per market, per customer. Please go to the SNAP tent to process SNAP/EBT.

The HLFM continues its Food Pantry Purchase Program. HLFM customers who want to help feed the local community may purchase local produce, meats, milk, and other food from growers at the Market to donate to this program every Saturday. At the end of the Market, the produce and other foods are gathered and given to various food pantries including Epworth and Casa San Francisco. The HLFM thanks its customers for their generosity.

The Market thanks The Lee Ann Wilkinson Group, 2021 HLFM Market Champion, for their continued support of the Market.
