HONEYLAND Opening at the Cinema Art Theater

Starting on September 13, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “Honeyland,” an award-winning documentary that tells the extraordinary story of the last female wild beekeeper in Europe and shows us how fragile our link with nature is.

Hatidze Muratova, a woman who lives with her ailing mother in the mountains of Macedonia, makes a living cultivating honey using ancient beekeeping traditions. When an unruly family moves in next door, what at first seems like a balm for her solitude becomes a source of tension as they, too, begin to practice beekeeping and threaten her very means of survival. [Macedonia, 2019, 87 minutes, Rating: NR, Turkish w/English subtitles].

John Powers of “NPR” says, “This elegant film begins as the intimate portrait of a beekeeper who makes famously good honey, and then expands to become something of a parable.” Monica Castillo of “RogerEbert.com” writes, “A documentary that is both an immersive experience and an undeniably gorgeous reflection on our relationship to nature.”

Screening times are 3 pm on Fri (Sep 13), 6 pm on Sat (Sep 14),4 pm on Sun (Sep 15), 2 pm on Mon (Sep 16), 6 pm on Wed (Sep 18), 3 pm on Thu (Sep 19). Admission is $8 for members and $11 for future members. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
