JAZZ FEST: A NEW ORLEANS STORY

Opening June 3, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater presents Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story, a vivid musical documentary that weaves together live performances and interviews from the 50th anniversary of an iconic festival.

The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, aka “Jazz Fest”, presented by Shell is the signature annual music and cultural event of the city and has been called America’s greatest festival. Celebrating the music, food, and arts and crafts of Louisiana since 1970, Jazz Fest is an essential showcase of the rich cultural heritage of the region, and captures the essence of performance art  for hundreds of thousands of attendees  each year. Local music heroes are joined on 14 stages by some of the most important figures in entertainment, highlighting the connections between Louisiana culture and the world.

The film shot at the 2019 Jazz Fest, featured some of the biggest names in the music industry (Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy Buffet, Earth Wind & Fire) along with a wealth of archival documentary footage from the past half century. This film not only captures the Festival in all of its beauty and glory, but also delves deep into the rich musical culture that is The Big Easy. Join RBFS as we roll out the red carpet for Jazz Fest’s 50th celebration. Laissez le bon temps rouler! (Translation: Let the good times roll!) [2021, USA, 194 min, R:PG-13]

Nell Minow of www.RogerEbert.com writes, “The history and commentary are fine, but the musical numbers are sensational.” Todd Jorgenson of Cinemalogue exclaims, “Overflowing with affection and toe-tapping exuberance.”
