JIM ALLISON: BREAKTHROUGH Opening at the Cinema Art Theater

Starting on October 18, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “Jim Allison: Breakthrough,” an absorbing documentary about a Nobel laureate and renegade scientist that goes against the medical establishment to find a cure for cancer.

Jim Allison, a native of south Texas and an avid blues harmonica player, whose creativity and boundless curiosity about the immune system set him on a trail-blazing path to change the face of cancer treatment. After the passing of his mother at a young age, Jim devotes his life to finding a cure for the terrible disease. Now at 70, this film chronicles a remarkable odyssey of his hard work and the struggles he experienced that led to the Nobel Prize-winning discovery. Stories directly from the man himself as well as his friends are narrated by Woody Harrelson and directed by Bill Haney. [US, 2019, 91 minutes, Rating: PG-13].

Sophie Novack of “Texas Observer” comments, “An engaging and entertaining film because Allison is a fascinating subject. He’s blunt and honest and colorful.” Bradley Gibson of “Film Threat” exclaims, “In a field you’d never think of as having rock stars, Allison is a rock star of immunology. The filmmaker, Bill Haney, is a rock star among documentarians for bringing us this wonderful, hopeful film about a man and a breakthrough achievement.”

Screening times are 3 pm on Fri (Oct 18), 6 pm on Sat (Oct 19), 2 pm on Sun (Oct 20), 3 pm on Wed (Oct 23), 6 pm on Thu (Oct 24). Admission is $8 for members and $11 for future members. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
