Lewes Lights Driving Tour of Holiday-Decorated Homes and Businesses

What is Lewes Lights?
In an effort to close out a year of darkness with bright light and holiday joy, "Lewes Lights" is a fun & free community activity for all to enjoy. 

Lewes, Delaware homeowners are invited to decorate their home exteriors for the holiday season. On December 3rd, a driving tour map of decorated homes within the City of Lewes will be provided to the public for all to enjoy beginning December 4th. 

Organizers are anticipating a large turnout in December for the Lewes Lights tour. While Lewes Lights remains a low risk event during COVID, organizers have made some changes for the health and safety of all participants. Please review the amended event details below.

SPECTATORS

Map Release: The Lewes Lights Tour map will be released on Thursday December 3rd. The digital map link and a PDF of addresses will be featured on www.leweslights.org

Tour Start: The first official night of Lewes Lights will be Friday December 4th

Opening Ceremony: Lewes Lights will host an opening ceremony on December 4th which will include Santa Claus leading a countdown to the simultaneous lighting of 8+ Clark Griswold category homes on Sussex Drive in Lewes. Due to social distancing, organizers will broadcast the event live on Facebook for all to view. At the conclusion of the event, the Lewes Lights homes will be lit for spectators to drive through and view. This is a drive through event, all participants must remain in their vehicles during the ceremony. The opening ceremony will take place rain or shine.

Map: It is highly recommended to view the Lewes Lights Tour map digitally via computer or mobile device. The digital map will have daily updates in case of reported electrical outages or revisions.

Safety: Spectators are requested to remain in their vehicles while touring the homes on the tour map. Please use flashers when viewing homes. Social distancing and masks are required in downtown Lewes.

Voting: To further safeguard against the spread of COVID-19, spectator voting is canceled for 2020. The competition is not canceled, and more information can be found below. A number of homes are participating, but don’t wish to be considered for awards. To simplify, we have devised an easier method of awarding the homes by category.

HOMEOWNERS

Registration Deadline: Address registration for event participation is due November 27th at 5:00 PM.

Map Details Form: On November 27th, registered homeowners will receive a final email from event organizers confirming their placement on the map. Homeowners will have until 5:00 PM on November 30th to decide if they wish to compete for awards or opt-out and simply be a featured home on the tour.

AWARDS

If homeowners opt-in for awards, the following will take place:

• There will be five judges, each with a professional background related to their award category.
• The judges are not Lewes residents & will not know who resides in each house.
• Judges will review each house in their assigned category to select awards.
• The children of Lewes will choose the Frozen, Frosty & Fun Award recipient. Stay tuned for details.
