"Me Too" in American Slavery: The Margaret Garner Story

In honor of Women’s History Month, the Library is partnering with Women’s March Sussex and the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice to present this special program. Margaret Garner was an enslaved young mother in 19th century Kentucky who tragically killed her child to prevent the child’s  return to the South. Margaret’s tale was fictionalized in Toni Morrison’s Beloved. Now Writer/Director Joanne Caputo, utilizing research from her 2008 Margaret Garner book, will present a deep look into Margaret’s actual life, when enslavement was layered with sexual bondage.
