MIDNIGHT FAMILY Opening at the Cinema Art Theater

December 20th, 2019 - 3:00 pm

MIDNIGHT FAMILY Opening at the Cinema Art Theater

Starting on Dec 20, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “Midnight Family,” a well-crafted documentary that offers an enthralling and disquieting glimpse into healthcare in modern Mexico.
In Mexico City, the government operates fewer than 45 emergency ambulances for a population of 9 million. This has spawned an underground industry of for-profit ambulances often run by people with little or no training or certification. An exception in this ethically fraught, cutthroat industry, the Ochoa family struggles to keep their financial needs from jeopardizing the people in their care. When a crackdown by corrupt police pushes the family into greater hardship, they face increasing moral dilemmas even as they continue providing essential emergency medical services. [US, 2019, Spanish, 81 minutes, Rating: NR].
Matt Zoller Seitz of “RogerEbert.com” comments, “One of the great contemporary films about the look and feel of a big city after dark.” Arlin Golden of “Film Inquiry” states, “The film owes its success to its engaging and entertaining protagonists, its high-stakes context, and Lorentzen's skilled editing. The whole film is really a virtuoso demonstration of craft.”
Screening times are 3 pm on Fri (Dec 20), 6 pm on Sat (Dec 21), 3:15 pm on Sun (Dec 22), 2 pm on Mon (Dec 23) and 3 pm on Thu (Dec 26). Admission is $8 for members and $11 for future members. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
