National Theatre Live's SAINT JOAN presented by RBFS

March 13th, 2017 - 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society announces the next play in the exciting series of National Theatre Live screenings. National Theatre Live is a groundbreaking project that presents the best of British theater live from the London stage on film to cinemas across the UK and around the world.

Bernard Shaw’s greatest play, “Saint Joan”, conveys the story of the most remarkable teenage girl in history. Gemma Arterton is Joan of Arc in Josie Rourke's electrifying new production from the Donmar Warehouse Theater. “Saint Joan” follows the life and trial of a young country girl who declares a bloody mission to drive the English from France. As one of the first Protestants and nationalists, she threatens the very fabric of the feudal society and the Catholic Church across Europe.

Joan: daughter, farm girl, visionary, patriot, king-whisperer, soldier, leader, victor, icon, radical, witch, heretic, saint, martyr, woman. From the torment of the Hundred Years' War, the charismatic Joan of Arc carved a victory that defined France. Bernard Shaw's classic play depicts a woman with all the instinct, zeal, and transforming power of a revolutionary in this stirring masterpiece.

“The Times” states “Arterton is luminescent as Joan” and “Evening Standard” says “Josie Rourke’s production shows that Shaw’s observations about class, religion and gender are still relevant.”  “Independent” gives the “highly recommended” production five stars. (Runtime 3 hrs. including an intermission).

Screenings will be on Monday, March 13th at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, March 15th at 7:00 pm and Saturday, March 18th at 1:00 pm at the Cinema Art Theater, 17701 Dartmouth Drive in Dartmouth Plaza (behind the Lewes Wawa). Admission for National Theatre Live is $18 for RBFS members and $20 general admission. Online reservations (www.rehobothfilm.com) are encouraged and may be made with MasterCard or VISA.
