This presentation will discuss shoreline stabilization and erosion issues, review the consequences of shoreline hardening, introduce the concept of living shorelines, highlight the 2014 and 2021 living shoreline projects on the Lewes Canal, in addition to mentioning what DNREC is doing to encourage living shorelines in Delaware.
Allison Rogerson is an Environmental Scientist with DNREC’s Division of Watershed Stewardship. She has been with the Wetland Monitoring and Assessment Program for nearly 15 years and lives in Smyrna. She is also the co-chair of the Delaware Living Shorelines Committee. Alison helped install the Lewes Canal living shoreline in 2014 and the extension in 2021.
Olivia McDonald is the Outreach and Communications Specialist with DNREC’s Division of Watershed Stewardship. She joined the Wetland Monitoring and Assessment Program 11 months ago from Delaware State Parks. A Harbeson native, she lives in Lewes. Olivia also helped install the 2021 Lewes Canal living shoreline extension.
