PARASITE Opening at the Cinema Art Theater

November 22nd, 2019 - 4:00 pm

PARASITE Opening at the Cinema Art Theater

Starting on Nov 22, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “Parasite,” a comedy thriller that follows a young man from a poor household who begins to tutor a rich family's daughter. Alongside his parents and sister, he slowly starts to infiltrate their personal lives.

Meet the Park Family: the picture of aspirational wealth. And the Kim Family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together and the Kim’s sense a golden opportunity. Masterminded by college-aged Ki-woo, the Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist, to the Parks. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. The Kim’s provide “indispensable” luxury services while the Parks obliviously bankroll their entire household. When a parasitic interloper threatens the Kim’s newfound comfort, a savage, underhanded battle for dominance breaks out, threatening to destroy the fragile ecosystem between the two families. [USA, 2019, in Korean with English subtitles, 132 minutes, Rating: R].

Moira Macdonald of “Seattle Times” remarks, “You'll watch knowing you're in the hands of a master filmmaker.” Sarah Knight Adamson of “Sarah’s Backstage Pass” exclaims, “The film is sarcastically brilliant, hysterical, clever, and frenzied. The cinematography is glorious! My advice, go in not knowing the details!”

Screening times are 4 pm on Fri (Nov 22), 4:45 pm on Sat (Nov 23), 4 pm on Sun (Nov 24),       4 pm and 7 pm on Wed (Nov 27). Admission is $8 for members and $11 for future members. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets online. If seats are available, tickets can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
