Peninsula Gallery presents "Awakening", an exhibition of photography by Brook Hedge - Reception for the artist Sat June 1st.
How many people have thought that during a lengthy career one day they would be able pursue a life passion? Local photographer, Brook Hedge, is just such a person. After forty years in the legal profession in Washington D.C., Brook retired to Lewes and decided to follow her passion for photography, a passion that had started, but was continually interrupted by her work, many years before.
“Awakenings” represents her reflections upon this new chapter in her life. Although through the years she had studied with different professionals and actually exhibited in a number of juried shows, this will be her first one-person show. Previously she had exhibited in collective shows held by Packard-Reath Gallery in Lewes, the Rehoboth Art League and at the Biggs Museum in Dover. She has won several awards of excellence. She won the William Horn Award for best photograph in the 78th Annual Rehoboth Art League Members Fine Art Exhibition. She now serves on the RAL Board.
The photographs in this exhibit take various forms including some being printed on aluminum. The choice of images was a collaborative effort between Brook, Carol and Tony Boyd-Heron, gallery owners, and their assistant, Molly King. After reviewing all the images, the title “Awakenings” was chosen because so many of the images seek to explore light and life through different perspectives, awakening the viewer to the never-ending search for a connection in life’s journey. When one door closes another can open if you are determined enough.
This exhibition opens on June 1st and runs through June 25. The artist reception is from 5-7 pm on Saturday June 1st. All images may be viewed on the gallery website, www.peninsula-gallery.com. The gallery is located in the Shops at the Beacon just across the canal bridge on Savannah Rd in Lewes. It is open Tue – Sat, 10-5 and Sun, 11-3.
Opening reception 5-7 pm Exhibition continues through June 25.
