RBFS National Theater Live series presents "Yerma"

November 21st, 2017 - 7:00 pm

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society announces the next play in the exciting series of National Theatre Live screenings. National Theatre Live is a groundbreaking project that presents the best of British theater live from the London stage on film to cinemas across the UK and around the world.

A young woman is driven to the unthinkable by her desperate desire to have a child in Simon Stone’s radical production of YERMA. The play is based on Spanish playwright Federico Garcia Lorca’s achingly powerful masterpiece. This theater phenomenon sold out at the Young Vic and is not to be missed. “The Times” gave it five stars and called it “an extraordinary theatrical triumph.” “The Independent” said the production was “a shatteringly powerful reinvention of a familiar classic.”

The incredible Billie Piper (“Penny Dreadful”) returns in her Evening Standard Best Actress award-winning role. Set in contemporary London, Piper’s portrayal of a woman in her thirties desperate to conceive builds with elemental force to a staggering, shocking climax. She has the capacity to give performances that can stun and exhaust. “The Daily Telegraph” describes her performance as “devastatingly powerful.” (Rated: R, Runtime 2 hours, with no intermission).

Screenings will be on Saturday, November 18h at 1:00 pm, Monday, November 20th at 1:00 pm and Tuesday, November 21st at 7:00 pm at the Cinema Art Theater, 17701 Dartmouth Drive in Dartmouth Plaza (behind the Lewes Wawa). Admission for National Theatre Live is $18 for RBFS members, $20 general admission and $15 for ages 16 and under. Online reservations (www.rehobothfilm.com) are encouraged and may be made with MasterCard or VISA.
