RBFS presents “Artisan Workshop: Steve Rogers”

October 9th, 2018 - 6:30 pm
FILM ON LOCAL ARTIST STEVE ROGERS

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society and the Rehoboth Art League are co-presenting an encore screening of “Artisan Workshop: Steve Rogers” on Tuesday, October 9th at the Cinema Art Theater.

In response to June’s sell-out screening, the “Artisan Workshop: Steve Rogers” is coming back for a second run. The film features a biography of the artist as well as his painting process from initial concept to finished work. It also includes his advice to aspiring artists.

Steve Rogers has never ceased to be fascinated by ships, the sea, marshlands and boatyards. He is constantly amazed by the craftsmanship, design and beauty found in the building of a ship, or even a simple skiff. He makes it a point to study the boats and ships he renders in his work, which has helped him in both his paintings and the ship models he has built. His resources include materials that are available in books, as well as in plan form, found in many museums and historical societies.

Creating this film involved a two-month collaboration between producer and director Dr. Len Shyles and artist Steve Rogers. Dr. Shyles has worked on the “Artisan Workshop Series,” an ongoing body of work whose purpose is to “reveal the creative process of artists and artisans at work.” Other films in this series include: “Artisan Workshop: Harry Havnoonian,” which introduces a custom bicycle frame designer, and “Artisan Workshop: Robert Bedford,” featuring a concert pianist and teacher who uses the Alexander Technique in his teaching and performance.

Dr. Len Shyles has a PhD in Communication from the Ohio State University. He has been a video writer, producer, director and editor for over thirty years, producing videos on a continuing basis while teaching video production at the university level. His work has aired on PBS television stations and cable channels. He is the author of “The Art of Video: Video Production in the Digital Age.” Dr. Shyles recently retired as an Associate Professor at Villanova University’s Department of Communications.

Tickets for this October 9th event are $15.00 and include a reception at 6:30 pm and the film screening starting at 7:00 pm followed by a Q&A session by both Steve Rogers and Dr. Len Shyles. Tickets can be purchased online at www.rehobothfilm.com or by phone at 645-9095, ext 1, The Cinema Art Theater is located at 17701 Dartmouth Drive in Dartmouth Plaza, behind the Lewes Wawa.
