RBFS presents 20th CENTURY WOMEN

February 10th, 2017 - 1:00 pm
20th CENTURY WOMEN opening at the Cinema Art Theater

Starting on February 10, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present 20th CENTURY WOMEN, a comedy-drama about family life.

Set in Santa Barbara, the film follows Dorothea Fields (Annette Bening), a determined single mother in her mid-50s who is raising her adolescent son, Jamie (newcomer Lucas Jade Zumann, in a breakout performance) at a time brimming with cultural change and rebellion. Dorothea enlists the help of two younger women in Jamie’s upbringing — Abbie (Greta Gerwig), a free-spirited punk artist living as a boarder in the Fields’ home, and Julie (Elle Fanning), a savvy and provocative teenage neighbor.

Allyson Johnson of the “Cambridge Day” applauds the film as “A beautiful depiction not just of family but of different generations of characters, mainly women, and what it means to be one in a time of transition and growth.”  The film’s strength is the performances of the cast in their roles as quirky but ordinary people that the audience may recognize as being familiar.

Acclaimed filmmaker Mike Mills (the Academy Award®- winning Beginners) brings us a richly multilayered, funny, heart-stirring celebration of the complexities of women, family, time, and the connections we search for our whole lives. [2016, USA, Runtime: 119 min. Rated: R]

Screening times are 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm on Friday (February 10), 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Saturday (February 11), 4:00 pm on Sunday (February 12), 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm on Wednesday (February 15) and 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Thursday (February 16).
