RBFS Presents AFTER THE STORM

April 21st, 2017 - 4:00 pm
AFTER THE STORM OPENING AT THE CINEMA ART THEATER

Starting on April 21st the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present AFTER THE STORM, a moving historical drama with many twists.

Drawing deeper than ever on his personal memories and experiences, award-winning filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda (OUR LITLE SISTER, STILL WALKING, NOBODY KNOWS) returns with a powerful story of family ties and expectations in AFTER THE STORM.

Once a successful and celebrated writer, Ryota, struggles to finish his next novel and can barely make ends meet working at a private detective agency. As his gambling addiction spirals out of control, Ryota’s wife Kyoko (Yoki Maki) leaves him, taking their young son with her. When a typhoon strikes, Ryota unexpectedly spends the night with his son, ex-wife, and aging mother (legendary actress Kirin Kiki), allowing the estranged family the opportunity to believe in each other once again. [2017, Japan, Runtime: 117 min. Not Rated]

Glenn Kenny of the “New York Times” states that the film is “Beautifully acted by a great cast” and one “that sticks with you.” Allyson Johnson of “Cambridge Day” describes AFTER THE STORM as “Delicately woven, warmly portrayed and capturing the balmy and refreshed atmosphere that follows a summer rain, Hirokazu Koreeda's AFTER THE STORM is a quiet masterpiece.”

Screening times are 4:00 pm on Friday (April 21), 7:00 pm on Saturday (April 22), 4:00 pm on Sunday (April 23), 4:00 pm on Wednesday (April 26) and 7:00 pm on Thursday (April 27).
