RBFS presents THE BREADWINNER opening at the Cinema Art Theater

February 2nd, 2018 - 4:00 pm

THE BREADWINNER OPENING AT THE CINEMA ART THEATER

Starting on February 2nd, the Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present THE BREADWINNER, an animated feature about an Afghan girl’s brave attempt to care for her family under the oppression of the Taliban. Though animated films are often considered for children, THE BREADWINNER has a story that will appeal to all ages.

From executive producer Angelina Jolie and the creators of the Academy Award®-nominated THE SECRET OF KELLS and SONG OF THE SEA, comes the Academy Award®-nominated best animated feature based on Deborah Ellis’ bestselling novel. Parvana is an 11-year-old girl growing up under the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2001. When her father is wrongfully arrested, Parvana cuts off her hair and dresses like a boy in order to support her family. Working alongside her friend Shauzia, Parvana discovers a new world of freedom–and danger. With undaunted courage, Parvana draws strength from the fantastical stories she invents, as she embarks on a quest to find her father and reunite her family. Equal parts thrilling and enchanting, THE BREADWINNER is an inspiring and luminously animated tale about the power of stories to sustain hope and carry us through dark times. [2017; Ireland, Canada, Luxembourg; Runtime: 93 minutes; Rated: PG-13].

“THE BREADWINNER is a well-crafted and inspiring story with an important message about female empowerment, embodied in heroic Parvana, something people of all ages should embrace,” writes Bruce Demara of “The Toronto Star”. Vanessa H. Larson of “The Washington Post” calls the film, “Visually captivating… [a] compelling and sympathetic portrayal of Afghans and their struggles.”

Screening times are 4:00 pm on Friday (Feb 2), 7:00 pm on Saturday (Feb 3), 3:15 pm on Sunday (Feb 4), and 4:00 pm on Wednesday (Feb 7). Tickets can be purchased at the Cinema Art Theater, starting 30 minutes prior to each screening. Admission for a screening is $8 for RBFS members and $10 for future members. All screenings are held at the Cinema Art Theater located at 17701 Dartmouth Drive in Dartmouth Plaza, behind the Lewes Wawa.
