RBFS presents Metropolitan Opera Live's RUSALKA

February 25th, 2017 - 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society and the Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation are proud to present The Metropolitan Opera’s live broadcast of Antonín Dvořák’s RUSALKA on Saturday, February 25, 12:55 PM at Cape Henlopen High School Theater.

Latvian soprano Kristin Opolais stars in this innovative new production of the opera that has previously won her international acclaim. In this mythical fairytale, director Mary Zimmerman’s theatrical genius creates a world where the water nymph Rusalka is ultimately doomed by her love for a human prince. Risking her lake home and all she holds dear, she embarks on a journey of love, longing, rejection and redemption that will change her forever. Featuring gorgeous melodies including the haunting aria, "Song to the Moon,” Opolais’ soaring soprano voice and moving stage presence has proven to be the perfect embodiment of the love struck water sprite.  Brandon Jovanovich, Jamie Barton, Katarina Dalayman, and Eric Owens complete the all-star cast. Sir Mark Elder conducts. There will be two intermissions. [2017, Sung in Czech with English subtitles, Runtime: 3 hours 40 minutes]

In addition to the opera performance, the HD series features Met opera stars conducting live interviews with cast and/or various production crew members while showing behind-the-scene workings. This captivating production is the sixth in The Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD series of 10 dates of live simulcast transmissions for 2016–17.
