RBFS presents National Theatre Live's "No Man's Land"

January 21st, 2017 - 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society announces the next play in the exciting series of National Theatre Live screenings. National Theatre Live is a groundbreaking project that presents the best of British theater live from the London stage on film to cinemas across the UK and around the world.

Sean Mathias’ acclaimed production of “No Man’s Land” won the 2016 Evening Standard Award for Best Revival. It is one of the most brilliantly entertaining plays by Nobel Prize laureate Harold Pinter. Following their hit run on Broadway, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart return to the West End stage in this glorious production, which also stars Owen Teale and Damien Molony. The play will be followed by an exclusive Q&A with the cast and director.

One summer’s evening, two ageing writers, Hirst and Spooner, meet in a Hampstead pub and continue their drinking into the night at Hirst’s stately house nearby. As the pair become increasingly inebriated, and their stories increasingly unbelievable, the lively conversation soon turns into a revealing power game, further complicated by the return home of two sinister young men.

This is a faithful production that captures both the essential bleakness and paradoxical comedy of Pinter’s enigmatic masterwork. This is not only the most poetic of his plays, but it also offers great opportunities for actors which Stewart and McKellen richly seize. All four excellent actors, under Mathias’s direction, exquisitely capture the fluctuations of mood of this remarkable play.

“Time Out” states, “Two of the greatest actors ever born in one of the greatest plays ever written.” The “Daily Telegraph” gives the production 5 stars and says, “Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart are unmissable.” (Runtime 2 hr. 30 min, including one intermission and a post-performance Q&A).

Screenings will be on Saturday, January 21st at 1:00 pm, Monday, January 23rd at 1:00 pm and Wednesday, January 25th at 7:00 pm at the Cinema Art Theater, 17701 Dartmouth Drive in Dartmouth Plaza (behind the Lewes Wawa). Admission for National Theatre Live is $18 for RBFS members and $20 general admission. Online reservations (www.rehobothfilm.com) are encouraged and may be made with MasterCard or VISA.
