ROMA OPENING AT THE CINEMA ART THEATER
Starting on January 18, enjoy one of the finest films of 2018 as it was meant to be seen: on the big screen. The Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present the Golden Globe®-winner for Best Foreign Language Motion Picture “Roma,” a remarkable autobiographical drama about the life of a young woman caring for a well-to-do family in 1970s Mexico. Director Alfonso Cuaron won the Golden Globe for Best Director for this film.
The most personal project to date from Cuarón (“Gravity”, “Children of Men”, “Y Tu Mama Tambien”), “Roma” follows Cleo (Yalitza Aparicio), a young domestic worker for a family in the neighborhood of Roma in Mexico City. Delivering an artful love letter to the women who raised him, Cuarón draws on his own childhood to create a vivid and emotional portrait of domestic strife and social hierarchy amidst political turmoil of the 1970s. [2018, Mexico/US, in Spanish with English subtitles, 135 minutes, Rated: R].
“One of the year’s very finest achievements…’Roma’ casts a spell and re-creates a specific time, place and collection of personal memories in ways that will connect with millions,” writes Michael Phillips of “The Chicago Tribune.” “’Roma’ is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen, and one of the most moving,” writes Joe Morgenstern of “The Wall Street Journal.”
