The Son Opening at the Cinema Art Theater in Lewes
Opening January 20, the Rehoboth Bach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater presents The Son, a compelling drama that follows a family as is struggles to reunite after falling apart.
Successful and workaholic lawyer Peter (Hugh Jackman) has a busy life with new partner Beth (Vanessa Kirby) and their baby. The family is thrown into disarray when Peter’s ex-wife Kate (Laura Dern) turns up with their deeply troubled teenage son, Nicholas. Peter strives to take care of Nicholas as he would have wanted his own father (Anthony Hopkins) to have taken care of him. However, by reaching for the past to correct its mistakes, he loses sight of how to hold onto Nicholas in the present. [2022, UK, 123 min, Rating: PG-13]
Rex Reed of Observer writes, “The Son is a bold, harrowing and unflinchingly sobering film that is admittedly not for every taste, but an unavoidably intelligent piece of filmmaking for mature viewers that I highly recommend.”
