Memorial Day Saturday at the Historic Lewes Farmers Market
Chef Sean Corea of Lewes Oyster House Demos at 10am
Children’s Storytime Starts at 10am

So much is going on at the Market this Memorial Day weekend, and it is a big community celebration centered around fresh locally grown food!

At 10 am, Executive Chef Sean Corea of Lewes Oyster House will use fresh ingredients to make grilled arrowhead point oysters with chorizo butter and a chimichurri sauce.

The very popular Children’s Storytime at the Market, a partnership with the Lewes Public Library, begins its season at Market at 10am under the yellow tent. Library volunteers read books about farming, gardening, and healthy eating. All children and their adults are welcome.

The HLFM Big Raffle returns with 3 stupendous prizes: a $1,400 gift certificate to Seagreen Bicycle; the Fabu-Lewes-Feast including 12 $100 restaurant gift cards; and a Private-in-Home 3-Course Chef with Wine Pairing for 10 by Chef Sean Corea. Tickets are on sale at the Market, and the drawing is September 2nd.

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market opens at 8 am at George H.P. Smith Park (Johnson and DuPont Avenues) Thirty-three farmers/producers will bring lots of beautiful snap peas, strawberries, spinach, arugula, fresh-cut asparagus, spinach, lettuces, kale, Swiss chard, radishes, turnips, stir-fry mixes, lamb and pork sausages, tilapia fish, oysters, live crabs or hand-picked crabmeat, grass-fed chicken, beef, honey, jams, mushrooms, freshly-laid eggs, A-2 milk, yogurt, butter, kombucha, cold pressed juices, fresh-baked breads, pastries made with fruit from the vendors at the Market, herb, veggie, and flower plants, beautiful cut-flower bouquets, and so much more. Come early and have breakfast at the Market—yogurt/granola/local fruit bowls, blueberry muffins, croissants, savory biscuits, gluten-free apple-cinnamon breakfast cake, iced oat milk Horchata lattes, and coffee drinks are just a few of the breakfast items at the Market.

The Historic Lewes Farmers Market is unique in that it is producer-only—at this Market customers buy directly from the farmer who grew the produce. Only vendors who grow, raise, or produce what they sell are allowed in this market.  A true farmers market! The HLFM website www.historiclewesfarmersmarket.org lists all vendors, their contact information, and whether or not they take pre-orders. For pre-orders, the customer may pick up at the vendor tent in the market.

The market’s weekly newsletter lists demos, what each farmer/producer is bringing each Saturday, and more. To receive the newsletter, customers should email [email protected] and ask to be added to the list.

The market accepts SNAP, WIC, and SFMNP benefits and continues to match SNAP up to $20 per market, per customer. Please go to the SNAP tent to process SNAP/EBT.

The HLFM continues its Food Pantry Purchase Program. HLFM customers who want to help feed the local community may purchase local produce, meats, milk, and other food from growers at the Market to donate to this program every Saturday. At the end of the Market, the produce and other foods are gathered and given to food pantries including Epworth and Casa San Francisco. The HLFM thanks its customers for their generosity.

The circle in front of the Fred Thomas Building at the foot of Dupont will be open for accessible drop-off and pick-up. The Lewes Elementary School parking lot at 820 Savannah Road is very close to the Park and Market location. There is an entrance to the park from the parking lot near the barn-like buildings (this entrance is not accessible to those with mobility issues). Beebe Hospital is also generously allowing market customers to park in its outside rear parking lot. Please go to www.historiclewesfarmersmarket.org to see where parking is located and to view Vendor Maps for the market.

The market moves to the Lewes Elementary School parking lot at 820 Savannah Road if there is inclement weather.

The Market thanks The Lee Ann Wilkinson Group, 2023 HLFM Market Champion, for their continued support of the Market. It also thanks all the 2023 Sponsors!
