The 2021 Great Delaware Kite Festival is Postponed to Good Friday of 2022
The Great Delaware Kite Festival, co-sponsored by the Lewes Chamber of Commerce and the Delaware
Division of Parks and Recreation, annually takes place at Cape Henlopen State Park on Good Friday. This
year in consideration of the limitations necessitated by COVID-19, the organizing committee has decided
to postpone the event until next year. Before making the decision to not stage the event this year, the
committee did consider alternative plans. In the end, it was determined that an event that attracts
thousands of attendees could not be managed safely while retaining key elements of what make the
event so much fun for families of all ages.
“This would have been the 53 rd Kite Festival and we are all extremely disappointed that it will not take
place,” said Betsy Reamer, executive director of the Lewes Chamber of Commerce, speaking for the
other committee members. “We look forward to next year when hopefully the pandemic will be under
control and the kites will be flying high over beautiful Cape Henlopen.”
