In the fall of 2017, eight University of Delaware graduate and undergraduate students were challenged in their Debating Marine Conservation course to discover a solution. Students were joined by the Green Team, a Lewes community group, to educate the public and propose a course of action. The result was the creation of a program to encourage Lewes businesses and patrons to reduce their dependence on single use plastic bags. The Businesses for Better Bags (B3) symbol shown in store windows identifies businesses that have pledged to make this change. Supported by Delaware Sea Grant, designed by Fashion students at UD and made in the USA (New Hampshire), this bag has been created entirely from recycled plastic bottles. By supporting this program and using this bag, (or other reusable bags) in place of single use plastics, you are doing your part to make single use plastic bags a thing of the past.
