“A Sailor’s Heart for Me” at the Cannonball House Maritime Museum

February 17th, 2017 - 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
The Lewes Historical Society is offering programs geared for kids Kindergarten through 2nd grade, while school is out on February 17th and March 3rd.

Visit the Cannonball House Maritime Museum at 118 Front Street in Lewes for children's story time, engaging learning opportunities, and history-themed crafts, all scheduled at two sessions per day: a morning session from 10:00am-11:00am and an afternoon session from 1:00pm-2:00pm. These programs are free for children and only a suggested donation of $5 per adult.  Space is limited; call for reservations (302) 645-7670.

The program on Friday, February 17th is titled, “A Sailor’s Heart for Me”.  Featured will be the book Hello Sailor, by Ingrid Gordon and Andre Sollie. The story tells of a man named Matt, who lives in a lighthouse and watches the sea every day for ships and for his friend, Sailor, to return.  It will be read aloud by living history character Mr. Gilbert McCraken, a past Lewes resident, former Delaware Bay and River Pilot, and lighthouse keeper of the Cape Henlopen Lighthouse during the 18th century.  After the story, children will have the chance to create their own Sailor’s Valentine to take home.
